Multiplayer options would have been great, there are none. For a 2016 release it could be better, I am not complaining. Finally, performance on todays general hardware is fine. Replayability is quickly snuffed out by long cutscenes that repeat multiple times per playthrough, One person's completion of the game would more or less be identical to anothers. Audio seamlessly synced with highpoints and lows, in conjunction with the graphical art style creates a beauty unfound in most other games these days. Composed by Austin Wintory, the same person who composed Journey, a game often compared to Abzu, even though Abzu is underwater and journey in a desert, countless qualities from that particular game are transferred over to this one. Only in the deepest of the ocean will you find that though, so far down, little to no light. And a whole live orchestration of stringed flute instruments brought together in happy, playful, towering and silence. Arguably equally as good as each other, the soundtrack abzu brings along with it for the ride is. The art style, shinning sunrays and choice of colour pallet significantly hold abzu up and away from inadequate aspects of the game like gameplay. This means the game should aesthetically age startlingly well too. Not repetitive either sailing past green kelp forests into an unending obbis of blue nothingness. From fish to turtles to sharks, not in ultra-high resolution finely detailed textures, just a bundle of colours organized together in a pleasing manner. The story kept me decently engaged throughout, wondering inside hidden caves, discovering new fish that I never even knew existed. Taking a more in-depth analysis of this world could take that playtime up to 4 hours therefore leaving it largely up to you. I finished this game in just over an hour and a half on my first playthrough, as a result you can easily knock this game out in a sitting or two. There are puzzles in this game, although I would not consider them puzzles, more of a "get the keys necessary to unlock said door" type situation.

However from this comes simplicity, you don't know where you are going, simply onward. Not that there is anything wrong with that, for exploration. The manoverability options are somewhat limited and can appear dragging at certain points, just an A to B rout with no differing side paths to take. If you have a controller I recommend you use it. The gameplay can be tricky to navigate, from a third person perspective it is almost as if flying a plane.

Taking place entirely underwater, as a beautifully atmospheric adventure. A game where you play as an unknown diver exploring the sea deep creatures and crevasses. Abzu is a gorgeous single-player game, one that I would recommend to a multitude of people.
